NORMA SALAZAR OROZCO

PORTRAIT

What is it exactly that Norma Salazar paints ? Flowers that seem picked from a magic garden. We see them scattered on top of baskets or various type of spaces, always shown in a non traditional manner. It would seem Norma always has flowers in front of her, vibrating in color, their contrast and the texture of their petals.

She is now a painter with an overflowing personality, her spontaneity comes not only from her youth but also from a particular creative sense which surges out of her positive soul as well as from an intense happiness.

Her art was always in her blood and in her history. It only had to be rediscovered. Suddenly she found herself in front of her creativity. From that moment in which she felt free she loved life and everything surrounding it: movement, light, color, open spaces...... and she emptied them in a canvas.

Norma Salazar, daughter of renowned portrait artist Martha Orozco, exhibits paintings of flowers with vibrant colors and bold compositions. Her work, a multicolor party, is a reflection of her love for life and liberty. Her sunflowers, lilies  and daisies  are dampened with light which trespasses the matter that contains them.

Native of Mexico City, she studied design, painting, carving and the history of art.  Later on she travels to England in search of her true calling but an accident has her returning to México where she gets married. Her home and children hide her calling for some years but they do not eliminate it in its entirety. After a few years, at the right moment,  art returns to her life.

In front of a cup of coffee, the artist remmembers her beginings and her search. What started as a children's hobby, as an infant's discipline, now takes command. Her teachers: her mother and her sister Ana Laura; her strength: her husband and children; her subjects: flowers and plants;  nature, fountain of harmony and life. The artist points out: "the environment is not just a term or a word, it is much more than that; it is a new opportunity, a responsablity and a purpose for the continuity of life.

Norma Salazar defines herself as a person of strong temper, elemental, happy and positive; fond of all that which surrounds her, of all that is tradition. She shows it in subtle and precise sketches in her watercolours as well as in the strenght of her oil paintings. "I am a woman who is happy with her work" she points with no hesitation . "I love life through my family and I breath this throught the peace in my paintings and the warmth of sunny days". Norma Salazar, a presence, creation and.......the voice of a woman.
