With more than fifty years of shaping her art on canvases. Capturing not merely faces but life itself and temperament, character as well as the personality of each and every person she portraits. Shifting from the purest of realism to subtle, surrealistic touches, Martha Orozco knows how to wrap her models with a warm light and colors that simoultaneously create bright tones and soft shadow mixtures. Her work can be equally found in oil, watercolour or pastel. It shows the peculiarity of being complemented by backgrounds with landscapes and objects that, in some ways, talk about taste, preferences, the surroundings that become familiar, akin, characterisitics of her portrayed subjects. This fact gives a unique, personal imprint to her paintings. Martha Orozco has spent her life inmersed in a pictorial atmosphere, while making of her profession a complete surrender to the demands of her artistic sensibility.
Her carrer hs been honored with more than twenty national and international awards, to mention a few: The "AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT OF PORTRAIT PAINTING". At "The National Portrait Seminar", 1981 New York, N.Y. 1983 Washington, D.C. First place in portrait competition at "The Portrait Arts Festival" of the "American Society of Portrait Artists (ASOPA)" 1995 Montgomery, Alabama .
"SIGNATURE", one of the best portrait art publications in the USA, dedicated its cover and main article to Martha's work in the 1998 autumn issue. Martha Orozco's paintings are owned by public and private internatioal collectors. Executives, politicians, bankers, professionals, children, families, including her own, are amongst her most common models. One of her last and most renowned work is an extraordinary portrait of Pope John Paul II. ordered by Monsignor Justo Mullor, the Papal Nuncio in Mexico in January 1999, this painting vividly depicts the actual personality of the Pope. It also embraces his incredible interior strength, his remakable sanctity and shows him surrounded by the enthsiastic crowds that always cheered him wherever he went in Mexico. This work of art is displayed permanently at theApostolic Nunciature in Mexico City. In 2003, Martha conmemorated her 50 years of artistic work with an exhibit which took place at the Bosques Entrepreneurs Club in México City. Nearly 100 portraits of bussinessmen, families, politicians and religious people where displayed October 7th. -24th. Critics as well as masters are of the opinion that her work, elegant but at the same time vigorous, has conquered a leading place in our contemporary artistic world.
